Be Still…

By now I hope that we all have started to settle into the new year. We have set some goals, maybe made a vision poster, and have started to settle into looking at where we want to go in this upcoming year. I have found that I have too many different planner type binders for this year, so I am working on how to integrate them into an easier format so I can utilize them all. I feel like this past week has been a lot of work for me as I begin this new year’s journey, but it’s been a good week! Now that I have things fairly organized and think I have it somewhat figured out (right?! haha)-God told me yesterday, now he wants me to take this week and Be Still! Wow! That kind of pushed me back a bit. But then he took me to scripture this morning to explain to me what He meant by that for me, for you, and for this Nation. In Psalms 46 it says this:

1God is our refuge and strength,
always ready to help in times of trouble.
2So we will not fear when earthquakes come
and the mountains crumble into the sea.
3Let the oceans roar and foam.
Let the mountains tremble as the waters surge!
Interlude

4A river brings joy to the city of our God,
the sacred home of the Most High.
5God dwells in that city; it cannot be destroyed.
From the very break of day, God will protect it.
6The nations are in chaos,
and their kingdoms crumble!
God’s voice thunders,
and the earth melts!
7The Lord of Heaven’s Armies is here among us;
the God of Israel is our fortress.
Interlude

8Come, see the glorious works of the Lord:
See how he brings destruction upon the world.
9He causes wars to end throughout the earth.
He breaks the bow and snaps the spear;
he burns the shields with fire.

10“Be still, and know that I am God!
I will be honored by every nation.
I will be honored throughout the world.”

11The Lord of Heaven’s Armies is here among us;
the God of Israel is our fortress.

I know for myself, I am supposed to take this week and Be still and to Listen. Listen to that still small voice (Holy Spirit) and let him teach me what He wants from all these plans, goals, visions, or whatever you would like to call them that have been placed on my heart for this upcoming year. To remind myself that it isn’t in my power-but the power on the inside of me through Jesus’ resurrection and by His Holy Spirit that I can accomplish His purpose for My life. So, after you hear from God-put those goals, plans, and visions down on paper for now it’s time to sit still and Listen to God.

Now God said, go back and read that chapter again and look at in context to the World and our Nation. Right now there is a whole lot of Rumbling and Noise going on in our world, and especially our nation. So much noise from so many different arenas, and so much information and misinformation coming at us at extreme speeds which makes the noise even louder. Just typing this, I am experiencing that sense of noise and rumbling. But God said, right there at the beginning of the verse, that He is there and He is always ready to help us in our times of trouble. I think we would all agree that our Nation is in a time of trouble right now. But God said He’s here and to not fear. There is so much to this chapter, but I will let you study that on your own. But as it gets to the end of the chapter, to the verse we are familiar with about being still, God showed me a different perspective. He isn’t talking about me being still-he’s talking about the warring enemy to be still, for my enemies to be still. A footnote from my study bible says it like this-  “Be Still: This is not a call to silent worship, it is the voice of God addressing the wicked warring nations with a warning. In other words, ‘cease and desist’ it is I , God, who will be exalted in victory; you do not have a chance of winning” (New Spirit filled life bible thompson/nelson)

So when the enemy is warring against us, our families, our nation, we are to Be still and trust in Him as He is making our enemies be still against us. Wow! As I am being still- He is making my enemies still.

Take some time this week to study out this chapter a bit more. Be Still in His presence and be assured He is causing all those areas of concern for you to Be Still.

I pray for you that the Peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your heart and your thoughts in Christ Jesus (Phil. 4:7)

Live! – until we meet again.
